Brazil’s Pantanal is home to the Giant Anteater, the elusive Ocelot, hundreds of bird species, Caiman, Capybara, Monkeys, Giant River Otters, and our primary subject Jaguars.
Our tour begins in Cuiaba (kwee-aa-ba) where you will be picked up from the airport and shuttled to a local hotel where we will gather. The following morning the real journey begins.
The road is about 100km of paved road and about 150km of dirt road to reach the Cuiba River. There are rest areas on the way and we will have a few stops for wildlife. We will stay at lodges about mid way, one night on both ends of the trip, seeking Giant Anteaters and Ocelots. The Ocelot is a night shoot from a blind used for research.
Once we reach the end of the road, we will be at the Cuiaba River.
This is Jaguar land!
Each day will begin at the lodge with a very early breakfast. We then depart on our river boat. The entire day will be on the waterways. Spotting birds, caiman, giant river otter, capybara, and of course jaguars. On the boat coffee, tea, water and snacks are available, we will have lunch on the boat as well. This maximizes our jaguar viewing.
After a long day we will return to the lodge for dinner.
A typical day begins at 5:30am for breakfast. We are on the boat around 6am. Returning to the lodge between 5-6pm with time to refresh and have dinner at 7pm.
