Into The Canyon

Mesa Arch (also known as Rotary Arch and Trail Arch) is a pothole arch on the eastern edge of the Island in the Sky mesa in Canyonlands National Park in northern San Juan County, Utah, United States. The Hike to get here is not particularly long or difficult, and you can not tell from the photo, but there was about a foot of snow on the trail to get here.

Monument Valley is a spectacular segment of the Colorado Plateau place located in the southeast corner of Utah and is part of the Navajo Nation. The Navajo name is Tsé Biiʼ Ndzisgaii – meaning Valley of Rocks. Snow does not stay on the valley floor very long with the annual average temp around 107 degrees. The best chances of snow fall are January and February which also includes significantly less visitors.

Stuck

Slot canyons are truly fascinating and otherworldly. Note the log stuck about 20 feet up from the canyon floor. This log likely came from one of many flash floods that rushed through the canyon.

Near the border of Arizona and Utah are a series of spectacular slot canyons. Most of these are found on Navajo lands and require native guides to access and permission to photograph them.
